The network's Leading Fresh Series of 2025 Secures a Significant Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.
During the fall season, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. But, later that same month, the channel launched a completely new animated series with a strikingly different tone. Haha, You Clowns proved to be heartwarming and calm, reminiscent of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. During a period often marked by dark humor, this show's earnestness found an audience and propelled it a breakout hit.
A Significant Investment
On December 18th, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two more seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three polite teenage brothers whose defining trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four key characters.
"I’m so grateful to the fans of the show who welcomed the series and shared it with others," said Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
A President's Endorsement
Accompanying the news commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He thanked the fans who discovered the show and championed its uniquely offbeat style.
"All of you got behind this new show, championed for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something surprisingly comfy about observing this endearing family navigate their everyday routines.
At the time, creator Joe Cappa stated his goal to move the comedy genre beyond its long-running layer of irony. He traced this trend to various cultural shifts.
“There's this level of irony that we keep returning to,” explained Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we just have to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”
What Comes Next
With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa has the opportunity to catalyze that comedic shift. If nothing else, the renewal promises audiences more opportunities to experience the gentle humor of the unique Campbell clan.
The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The entire series is ready to watch on HBO Max.
