'Our Mission Is Exclusively Executing' - The Way Sudan's Ruthless Fighting Force Perpetrated a Massacre

Warning: This Account Includes Disturbing Descriptions of Executions.

Combatants laugh as they move on the rear of a utility vehicle, racing past a row of multiple lifeless forms and moving towards the setting Sudan's sunset.

"Observe such accomplishment. See this mass destruction," a fighter cheers.

The fighter grins as he turns the video equipment on his own face and his fellow combatants, their paramilitary insignia clearly shown: "They will all be killed this way."

The men are exulting in a massacre that aid workers believe resulted in the deaths of over two thousand people in the African urban center of al-Fashir in recent weeks.

A Community Isolated from the Outside

Following their control of the community under siege for approximately 24 months, from August the RSF moved to consolidate its position and blockade the leftover civilian population.

Orbital photography demonstrate that fighters started to construct a enormous sand wall - a raised dirt embankment - around the edges of el-Fasher, sealing off entry points and halting aid.

While the blockade intensified, multiple individuals were murdered in an militia attack on a religious building on 19 September, while the United Nations stated fifty-three more were killed in aerial and cannon bombardments on a displacement camp in October.

Graphic Footage Shows Weaponless People Gunned Down

At dawn on 26 October the militia defeated the remaining government strongholds and seized the main headquarters in the city, the main facility of the 6th Infantry Division, as the military pulled back.

Among the most graphic recordings to emerge and analysed showed the consequences of a massacre at a university building on the western of the city, where numerous corpses were seen strewn over the area.

An older individual clad in a robe remained isolated amongst the bodies. The man looked to gaze as a combatant armed with a weapon moved along the steps towards the individual. Raising his weapon, the fighter discharged a one bullet at the victim, who dropped to the floor still.

"Why is this one yet breathing," one fighter exclaimed. "Shoot this person."

Space-based imagery recorded on October 26th seemed to substantiate that shootings were furthermore conducted on the thoroughfares of the city, as reported by a study published by the university analysis team.

A key witness who provided testimony said he had seen "multiple of our kin being massacred - the victims were gathered in one place and each one killed."

Militia Officers Attempt to Carry Out Damage Control

In the days that followed the massacre, paramilitary leader acknowledged that his fighters had carried out "violations" and stated the occurrences would be looked into.

Part of the arrested was following a investigation recording his executions. Deliberately choreographed and modified footage published on the paramilitary's formal Telegram account reveal the individual being escorted into a detention area at a jail on the outskirts of the city.

Meanwhile, the RSF and connected digital profiles began seeking to reshape the account.

Content depicting its combatants handing out assistance to inhabitants were shared by several individuals, while the paramilitary's media office shared multiple recordings purporting to demonstrate the humane handling of military detainees.

In spite of the social media initiative being deployed by the militia, their conduct in al-Fashir have sparked international condemnation.
