Oscar-Nominated Star Diane Ladd, Known For Her Performance in Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, Dies at the Age of 89.
This Academy Award-nominated actor Diane Ladd, a Hollywood veteran has died 89 years old.
This actress, with credits included Chinatown, died at her home at her Ojai, California home. The news was revealed in a statement by her offspring, Academy Award-winning star Laura Dern, her daughter.
Laura Dern, who performed alongside her mother in several movies like Wild at Heart and Rambling Rose, described her as “my incredible hero plus my profound gift as a mother”, noting that she was by her side during her final moments.
“She was the most wonderful mother, daughter, grandmother, star, artist along with caring individual that felt like a dream come true,” she wrote. “We were blessed to have her. She is now with the angels.”
Initial Roles and Rise to Fame
Her initial acting years featured small roles on television series such as Gunsmoke whereas that decade featured her performing with Jack Nicholson in the classic Chinatown.
During that year, 1974, she appeared with Ellen Burstyn in Scorsese’s celebrated comedy drama Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore. Her acting brought Ladd her initial Oscar nod for best supporting actress.
Later Decades
During the eighties, she appeared in crime thriller Black Widow, a suspense story plus comedy sequel National Lampoon’s holiday comedy while also joining the sitcom Alice, a television series derived from her earlier movie.
In the following decade, she received an additional best supporting actress Academy Award nomination for her role in the David Lynch film Wild at Heart, a cult classic where she played the parent of her biological child Laura Dern’s role.
