Former Physician Charged with Sexual Assault Allegations Involving 38 Individuals in His Care
Prosecutors have announced that a former doctor now faces charges for carrying out sexual assaults against thirty-eight individuals who were patients.
The Serious Charges
Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham has been charged with dozens of acts of sexual assault – including acts against minors under the age of thirteen – spanning the period from 2017 to 2021.
One senior prosecutor said, “Our prosecutors have worked at length to support a thorough and intricate police inquiry, meticulously examining the available evidence to determine that there is a strong case to bring the case to trial and that it is in the public interest.”
Scope of the Investigation
These allegations come after what police called a “complex investigation” into reported sexual offences at medical facilities: the Royal Stoke university hospital and a facility in Dudley.
Spencer is due to appear at the North Staffordshire justice centre on 20 January.
List of Offences
The charging documents outline the forty-five sexual offences he is charged with:
- Fifteen counts of sexual assault.
- 17 counts of penetrative assault.
- Nine counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
- Three counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
- 1 count of attempted penetrative assault.
Authorities have asked individuals with information to contact the investigating team.
