Democrats Disclose Newest Set of Jeffrey Epstein Photographs as Department of Justice Time Limit Nears
Oversight Panel
The House investigative committee has released a batch of approximately 70 photographs from the estate of former convicted individual convicted of sex crimes Jeffrey Epstein.
This constitutes the third release from a larger collection of over 95,000 images the body has acquired from Epstein's estate. It contains images of excerpts from the novel Lolita written across a woman's body, and censored images of female foreign passports.
This release occurs mere hours before the 19 December deadline for the Justice Department to make public each documents related to its investigation into Epstein.
"These latest images pose more questions about precisely what the Justice Department has in its custody," remarked the senior Democrat of the committee, Robert Garcia.
What is in the Images Released
Some of the images published on this week feature Epstein in discussion with professor and activist Noam Chomsky on a personal aircraft; Bill Gates standing next to a woman whose face is redacted; Steve Bannon seated at a table across from Epstein, and ex- Alphabet president Sergey Brin at a dinner gathering.
Committee
These are the newest high-net-worth, prominent individuals to be seen in Epstein estate photos released by the House Oversight Committee - earlier disclosed pictures also show US President Donald Trump and former president Bill Clinton, as well as movie director Woody Allen, previous US treasury secretary Larry Summers, counsel Alan Dershowitz, Andrew Mountbatton-Windsor, and additional individuals.
Being pictured in the images is not evidence of any misconduct, and several of the photographed men have said they were in no way participating in Epstein's illegal activity.
In a announcement released with the image release, Democrats on the US House Oversight Committee stated the Epstein property holders did not offer explanatory details or timeframes for the pictures.
"Photographs were picked to provide the general populace with clarity into a representative sample of the images received from the estate, and to provide perspectives into Epstein's network and his profoundly troubling behavior," the announcement states.
Investigative Body
The disclosure also contains multiple photographs of excerpts from the Vladimir Nabokov literary work Lolita written in dark ink across various areas of a woman's body, like her torso, feet, hipbone, and rear. Lolita recounts the account of a minor who was groomed by a adult literature professor.
An example of a passage from the book inscribed across a woman's upper body reads, "Lo-lee-ta: the tip of the tongue taking a trip of three steps down the mouth to land, at three, on the teeth".
Additionally, there are a number of photos of female identification and ID papers from states around the world, including Lithuania, Russia, the Czech Republic, and Ukraine.
Investigative Body
Most of the details on the papers, including identities and dates of birth, is censored but the House Oversight Committee indicated in a press release that the travel documents are associated with "individuals whom Jeffrey Epstein and his conspirators were involved with".
A further photograph depicts Epstein sitting at a desk intimately surrounded by three women whose features have been censored - a first has her hand on Epstein's upper body under his shirt, and a second is leaning to examine a adjacent laptop. Epstein appears to be helping the third attach a wristband.
Investigative Body
A further photograph released is a capture of digital messages from an unnamed individual who claims they have been provided "several females" and are requesting "$1000 per female".
Photograph Publication Occurs Before DOJ Due Date
The committee has many thousands of images in its custody from the Epstein property, which are "simultaneously graphic and mundane," its press release on recently noted.
The oversight panel first legally compelled the property of Epstein, who died in a New York jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on accusations of human trafficking, in August.
The photographs and files the Epstein estate's representatives provided to the committee are different than what is often termed "the Epstein files". Those files are documents within the DOJ's possession associated with its independent investigation into Epstein.
In accordance with the recently passed law, which the President enacted last month, the DOJ has until 19 December to disclose its files. The extent of what's included in the DOJ's files is unclear, and it's probable that much of the material will be significantly redacted, comparable to the committee's materials
