David Raya Highlights Squad Depth as Essential to Silverware Ambitions
The Spanish shot-stopper has declared that intense competition for starting positions is propelling Arsenal's exceptional performance, with the keeper believing that the squad's depth under Mikel Arteta is so remarkable that they can contend for various titles this season.
Dominant Wins Showcase The Gunners' Strength
The North London club's latest comprehensive win over Atlético Madrid marked their six consecutive wins and tenth triumph in 12 matches. Having let in just three goals—a record low at this point in the club's history—they have secured a one-point lead at the top of the table and a flawless start in the Champions League after three outings.
Rotation and Versatility Crucial to Success
Raya has featured in nearly every game, except for one domestic cup encounter, but the manager has consistently rotated the lineup following significant summer investment on new signings. When asked about competing for several pieces of silverware, Raya said, "Yes, I believe so. Our squad strength is amazing. We have numerous options who can perform in multiple roles."
Like in the Atlético match, Mikel Merino came on as a forward and can also play as a No 8 or attacking midfielder. That versatility is available to the manager, and he's using it to our advantage. It's looking extremely promising, and that depth is very important for us.
Rivalry Drives Performance
Raya added, "This situation provides an additional edge in practice and matches because if you slack off, you can lose instantly. It creates healthy competitiveness in sessions and during matches, which is really, really important, and everyone is on board."
Defensive Solidity a Team Achievement
The team have conceded only one goal from regular play this season, and the keeper has had to deal with a mere one attempt in their recent victories against three opponents.
"Everyone contributes from the forwards to the goalie," he said. "Everyone is focused, no one wants to concede, and we aim to intercept the ball prior to it crossing the halfway line. If we intercept, we can launch a quick counter. It's crucial for the entire team to understand this mentality, and we're not allowing numerous opportunities, which is perfect."
