Arne Slot Insists He Is Safe and Has Liverpool's Support After PSV Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it's understandable for concerns to be asked about his future following a further convincing defeat against the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their ninth defeat in twelve games, representing the club's worst run since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing night at Anfield.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I have got significant backing from the top,” the coach stated.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and earn three points naturally but when you're working as a coach and not doing well then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I am OK with my position. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a challenging situation but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to provide details on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach explained:
“We communicate frequently. They are supportive for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me every single minute each day to say they back me.”
He added, “During our regular conversations we have I feel the confidence. But I've not talked to them after this game yet so let’s see.”
Persistent Issues and Player Response
Slot expressed regret over recurring weaknesses from his team in their Champions League loss, namely wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder remarked.
“It is unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to think about it. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He added, “It's tough because I’m playing for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen this club for years.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a phase such as this with outcomes like these.”
He finished, “But we still have the emblem on our shirts. And as long as it is taken away, we'll continue to fight.”
“We will attempt to help the side return to the top, show everyone once more what this club is about and why people call it the top club in the planet.”
“At this moment, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
